Backlinks, maintain a limit..!!

Sites that trade links to manipulate their PR and SERPs on Google are being Penalised. Everyone including Google know that a good way to get some traffic is by trading links, BUT when the number of backlinks of a site increases from 10 to 1000 all of a sudden, google sees that and its a bright red flag.
Therefore, the point being mentioned here is that link exchanges can be done but not too many at a time. Another way to achieve a good PR is by means of link directories but care should be taken that submitting to such directories is not overdone.
The best way to go about linkbuiling is to be slow, steady and consisting. An average should be maintained initially and can be slowly increased or decreased. Patience is the key to success on Google.
You need to be smart enough to know that trading links with relevant sites having the same or atleast similar content as that of yours can do a lot good.
