Google’s Dec 09 Major Pagerank Update
Thursday, December 31, 2009 13:25Exactly two months and 1 day after its previous major Pagerank Update which was carried out on October 30th 2009, the visual Pagerank seems to have been updated again by Google. This comes a day before the first day of the new year 2010 and almost at the brink of the holidays after which as said by Matt Cutts, we could experience the integration of the Caffeine update into Google’s algorithm.
This update seems to be unusually quite sooner than expected. Infact, i doubt anyone even expected the Pagerank update so soon. If you have been a frequent visitor on the major forums like digitalpoint, netbuilders, V7n, etc… you would have noticed that most of the senior Search Engine Optimizers had predicted it to be anywhere between the 2nd week to January to the 1st week of Feb 2010. It is actually good news though for most of the webmasters as many have experienced a rise in the Pagerank of their respective websites.

Infact, the pagerank of techfrog.org which happens to be the website where you’re reading this post has gone from PR1 which was achieved in October to PR2. Some inner pages have also moved to a PR2 from a lower PR. One inner page regarding linking advice has moved to a PR3 from a PR0 with just 4 backlinks which hold nearly no value. This shows how important the homepage PR is for the flow and distribution of Pagerank for the pages within the site.
You’ll can check the following thread for a full discussion on this topic :
Netbuilders.org – Here
PR is considered as ‘not so important’ for ranking well in the SERPs, however it has its own benefits :
I always hear how PR isn’t important, but it really does play a factor in the amount of money you can charge for advertising. People who run AdSense or another PPC network generally don’t need to worry about this, but if you’re running a popular blog or social networking site you need to have stats to show advertisers – and PageRank is a popular number most ask for!
For those of you who may be unaware, Google updates the PR on a daily basis, however this updated PR isn’t showed publicly and is kinda secret. Every 2-4 months, Google releases a visual PR update just the same as the one viewed today.
None of the major SEO blogs like Seomoz, Seobook, etc.. have released any info on this update as of yet. Matt Cutts hasn’t announced anything either on his blog or on Twitter as of yet regarding this update. Since it takes time for the PR to be updated on all datacenters throughout the globe, this Update can take a day more for completion.

I can confirm the pagerank update. I was surprised to see my site jump from a 0 to 3. Happy new year Google!

I didn’t see any PR increase for any of my websites. I’ll try harder next time.
