Many enthusiasts of late, seem to be asking the similar question : Will the deal made between Bing and Yahoo affect my search rankings? The truth is that it may, eventually have a substantial impact.

Imagine the following scenario : The legalities are settled and all happens as per the plan. Ultimately, what we will be seeing is a complete transition of the results of Bing being displayed when a search is run at Yahoo. This result : Existence of only 2 major search engines namely Bing and Google. Also, on the organic level at least, Yahoo algorithm based results will become extinct. So, in case you want to maintain the high Yahoo rankings your site currently holds, improving your rankings on Bing seems to be the only option. But you need not worry too much as time is on your side. Reports claim that it could take as long as 2 years for Bing results to appear on Yahoo, however it must be said that 2 years can fly much faster than we think.

At this stage, it is recommended to start improving ones Bing ranks. Initially, Bing was frequently neglected owing to their remarkably small market share – around 10% to be approximately precise. With Yahoo getting involved, those results can claim as much as 30%+ of the shares if Bing really makes it. This market share is high enough to make the value of these results much more than their current value.

All this said, i must caution you not to put what you have with Google in jeopardy. Although it is technically possible for Bing to acquire Google’s place as champion some day, it would not worry me too much. In the rare case that it does happen, it is highly likely not to be in the near future.

This is most likely have a major effect on many SEO’s especially those done for Yahoo. So it would be better if we know by now, which will prevail on the deal, Yahoo or Bing. This way, we can begin devising new strategies for when it takes full effect.
